I use to ski from the age of 6-15, but then picked up a board from 15 - current(21). Anyway, I want to get back on skis to ride the skier exclusive resorts but I have no gear, plus I do not know if I am good anymore. Is buying "used" a good idea? I saw some used gear on craigslist for under $100, including ski, binding, boots.Note: I am a college student

Yes, you can buy new equipment, I think.New ones will be more safe for your body!

Go for it, but take them to a shop and get them tuned up. Plus get your bindings adjusted professionaly for your weight and height so that they work right (so if you fall your ski will come off). Good luck.

buy new stuff so you know your getting quality, there are a lot of scams on craigslist, ebay, etc.

New equipment is nice. It's nice to know that the equipment hasn't been abused or damaged and whatnot. The question is really your budget. If you can afford it, I would buy new. If you want to really stretch your dollar, then def. buy used BUT find yourself a reliable, experienced ski buddy to help you find a used equipment that is not damaged and a good deal. You need a friend that knows the brands and types of skis out there. Many are good, decent skis and some are just plain junk or damaged beyond repair. If you have plans to stick with the sport for years, keep in mind that over time you might find out what type of skis you enjoy the most - length, flex, width, maybe sidecut and which brands perform better for you.If you can.. take advantage of demo days at your ski areas. It is a great time to personally test one model to another. There might even be a ski shop or two in your area or near the ski slopes that offer season rentals where you can switch with a handful of different skis. But first get your own ski boots for this deal.Your boots are your most important piece of equipment. Make SURE that they fit properly.
