Thread: Saltwater Fishing in Seattle; How to fish from a pier?

  1. Default Saltwater Fishing in Seattle; How to fish from a pier?

Since I moved from Eastern Washington to the West side...I've been challenged by the fishing. I've spent a large amount of time fishing various saltwater tackle from the Edmonds' Pier. Does anyone have any pier-fishing tips? Let me qualify that a bit...I just want to catch 'something.' I catch and release almost exclusively...so I just want to have fun and catch something besides a cold.

I lived there for a time.Close in there is usually to much fuel "residue" in the water to make for good fishing IN Seattle. When the wind was blowing "offshore" I could sometimes catch something with LOTS of line and a kite.I would fly the kite, and use a little "line sail roller" to carry my bait out a lot farther than I could cast, When it hit the stop placed on the kite string, it would release the bait, and the sail, and roll back down the line to be ready for the next "cast".(THIS ALSO works when "surf" fishing, which is what it was actually designed for.) An "early" catch, (shortly after the bait drop,) could lead to a long fight before landing the "whatever" you hooked!!
