Can I be a ski instructor?
Hi - I am 26 years old, have been skiing for 24 years and am considered by most to be a high intermediate skier. I understand rudimentary technique, but haven't had any advanced formal training. I love to ski, am a great communicator, and would love to find out what it takes to be a ski instructor. Maybe teaching kids first, then branching out to adults? Anyhow, anyone out there have any advice on qualifications or requirements of a ski instructor? I'd love to learn more.

Now is the time to apply for the jobs. Many resorts and concession ski schools are hiring and interviewing through job fairs. Choose the resort you want to work for and apply. Every year new instructors are hired with no experience. Most start with teaching children, then with experience and training are able to teach all levels of students. After 44 years of teaching, the demand for new instructors who understand how and what to teach to the individual student is always there. The ski school will train every instructor with what they want taught to their students. This is usually done in December, school starts in December or January and can go until March or May as it did for me last season. Typical wages start at the minimum legal wage and advance with training and experience. Standards vary with the region you teach. More info about your choice of areas will help us give more direction. Have fun, get in shape expect to lose weight over the season.
